Ayodhya verdict: Disputed land goes to Hindus, Muslims to get alternate land

ramoji

Nine years after the Allahabad High Court ruling, the Supreme Court on Saturday ruled that the Hindus would get the entire disputed 2.77 acres in Ayodhya.

This is the land on which the now demolished Babri Masjid once stood. The Muslims will get alternate land either in the surplus 67 acres acquired in and around the disputed structure by the central govt or any other prominent place.

The entire 2.77 acres will remain with the receiver and will be handed over to a trust to be formed in 3 months to build a temple. The Nirmohi Akhara is not the sebait, the court held. Instead it will get to be a member of the trust.

The court said that it was not ruling on faith but the fact that Muslim possession over the inner courtyard was always contested by the Hindus who continued to pray at the spot.

A bench led by CJI Ranjan Gogoi delivered the verdict. He was sitting alongside CJI designate S.A. Bobde, and Justices D.Y. Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S.A. Nazeer. The verdict was unanimous.

The Allahabad High Court had in 2010 partitioned the land between Hindus and Muslims in a 2:1 ratio.

The deity, Ram Lalla, and the sebait, the Nirmohi Akhara, had got two shares. The Uttar Pradesh Sunni central Wakf Board got a third of the share.

The land on which the now demolished Babri Masjid structure once stood went to the Ram Lalla. The Ram Chabutra and the Sita Rasoi went to the Akhara.

The Muslims were to get a share after adjustment by metes and bounds for exit and entry into each person's share.

Both parties were unhappy with the judgement and had appealed to the top court. The court had stayed the judgement.

The issue remained pending till BJP leader Subramanian Swamy -- though not a party -- pressed for a hearing.

Former CJI J.S. Khehar then took it up and even offered to personally mediate between the two sides.

He later backtracked when he realised Swamy was not a party to the case.

His successor former CJI Dipak Misra tried to hear the case but it was stymied by a plea by the Muslim side which insisted on a hearing to reexamine the Ismail Faruqui judgement which it said would prejudice its claims over the Babri Masjid.

The court eventually refused to reopen the case which had held that mosques were not essential to worship in Islam.

The CJI Misra had set up a three judge bench to hear the title suit. But CJI Gogoi rescinded that judicial order to set up a five judge bench to hear it. The case was heard for over 40 working days, possibly one of the longest in the court.

The Hindus had claimed that they had been continously worshipping at the spot where the masjid stood, a claim contested by the Muslims who claimed that a mosque stood on the spot since 1528.

Microsoft Japan tested a four-day work week and productivity jumped by 40%

Microsoft Japan’s four-day work week project gave its entire 2,300 person staff five Friday’s off in a row without decreasing pay.

Microsoft tested out a four-day work week in its Japan offices and found as a result employees were not only happier – but significantly more productive.
For the month of August, Microsoft Japan experimented with a new project called Work-Life Choice Challenge Summer 2019, giving its entire 2,300-person workforce five Fridays off in a row without decreasing pay.
The shortened weeks led to more efficient meetings, happier workers and boosted productivity by a staggering 40%, the company concluded at the end of the trial. As part of the program, the company had also planned to subsidize family vacations for employees up to ¥100,000 or $920.
“Work a short time, rest well and learn a lot,” Microsoft Japan president and CEO Takuya Hirano said in a statement to Microsoft Japan’s website. “I want employees to think about and experience how they can achieve the same results with 20% less working time.”

Canada, Australia and the USA have moved the World Trade Organisation (WTO), raising objections over ban on import of certain pulses by India to check falling prices in the domestic market.
They have also submitted fresh questions on the validity of the steps taken by India under global trade rules and asked New Delhi to justify the restrictions under the rules.
India is the biggest producer and consumer of pulses and consumes about 240 lakh tonnes of pulses a year.
Vimal Kothari, Vice-President of the India Pulses and Grains Association, said India had reduced pulses' import from 60 lakh tonnes to 15-20 lakh tonnes.
"India is moving towards self-reliance in production of pulses. The import ban is necessary to provide the best prices to farmers. But moong and urad crops have been damaged due to excessive rain this year, which will be compensated by import," Kothari said.

Yogi Adityanath allots Rs 447 cr to buy land for Lord Ram statue, centre

yogi

The Yogi Adityanath government has allotted Rs 447 cr for acquisition of 61 hectares in Ayodhya to house the world’s tallest 251-metre high statue of Lord Ram. This is apart from the Rs 200 cr sanctioned earlier this year for carrying out technical studies for building the statue.

The state cabinet, while taking these decisions on Friday ahead of the much-anticipated Supreme Court verdict in the Ram Jamambhoomi case, has also “authorised” the chief minister to henceforth take any decision in respect of the Lord Ram’s statue. UP minister Shrikant Sharma on Friday said the cabinet approved a proposal to acquire 61 hectares in Ayodhya’s Mirpur village for Rs 447.46 crore where the Lord Ram statue, a digital museum, an interpretation centre, a library, a food plaza, parking, landscaping and other associated tourist facilities will come up. “This project is being modeled on the Sardar Patel statue project in Gujarat,” Sharma said. The Patel statue stands at 183-feet.

Sharma said that out of the Rs 200 crore approved earlier this year for carrying out a detailed project report, wind tunnel and design studies for the statue, Rs 100 crore has been released, implying that the work for the project can start now. Detailed studies of the soil strength and wind-speed at the site have to be conducted to ensure that the statue can be built here.
