Gujrat based dairy giant Amul is all set to acquire its first dairy plant outside India in the United States. A team of eight people are already in America to look for a dairy plant to acquire.
A top company official was quoted in the report as, "We are looking at options to expand our US operation so that we can service the market better. Presently, from the Waterloo facility, we can at best service the eastern coast. The best option is to start our own operations there."
A team of 8 people from the board of directors are already in America to look for a dairy plant which can be acquired, added the report. Amul Dairy's chairman Ramsinh Parmar told the national daily that once the directors return, the company will understand the position and will then go ahead with the acquisition process.
Worth mentioning here is that Amul's total sales are at almost Rs 60 crore in the US market including dairy products which are manufactured in India and are exported. The dairy plant at Waterloo village has been manufacturing dairy products for Amul since 2015.
